About KIEP 250+

The goal of KIEP 250+ is to increase productivity and innovation within established Kenyan SMEs. We provide technical assistance to eligible firms to improve their managerial and technical skills and enhance their access to and use of technology. Our goal is to help create a vibrant, resilient and highly professional group of SMEs that can be viewed as world-class and is able to compete internationally.

SMEs accepted into the project will participate in a business diagnosis scan and agree with the Fund Manager on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) that identifies the gaps that should be addressed to increase innovation and productivity. KIEP 250+ offers an integrated package of consultancy and business improvement services – plus financial support to make your business transformation, expansion or diversification highly affordable. Technical assistance will be provided by qualified 3rd party specialists chosen by the SME from the KIEP 250+ screened Business Development Service (BDS) Providers database.

KIEP 250+ is organized around six SME cohorts with each cohort being preceded by a Call for Applications. Cohort one application window was opened on 20th November, 2020 and closed on 24th December, 2020. From applications received, 44 SMEs were shortlisted. Cohort two application window was opened on 11th August, 2023 and closed on 15th September, 2023. From the applications received, 67 SMEs were approved. The 3rd SME application window is now open, from 20th November, 2023. Applications will be processed on a rolling basis. The project works closely with lead firms, financial institutions as well as industry and business associations who are encouraged to nominate eligible SMEs to participate in the project.
